Your Prolimit harness is an investment in performance and comfort, handling everything from strong winds to smashing waves and the corrosive effects of salt water. With minimal effort, you can give your harness the care it deserves, helping it stay in top condition and extend its lifespan. It may seem obvious, but it’s often something that’s easy to overlook.

Here are 10 simple steps to keep your harness in great shape.

1. Rinse After Every Session

Saltwater and sand can damage your harness over time as it can degrade materials. Rinse your harness with fresh water after every session to remove salt, sand and dirt. Pay special attention to buckles, straps and velcro areas.

2. Dry It Properly

UV rays can degrade the materials of your harness, avoid leaving your harness in direct sunlight for extended periods. Instead, hang your harness in a shaded, well-ventilated area to air dry completely before storing it.

3. Check for Wear and Tear

Regularly check your harness for signs of damage, such as frayed stitching, worn-out straps, or cracks in hard components. Taking care of these issues early ensures a safer and more reliable session.

4. Clean Velcro and Buckles

Velcro and buckles are essential for ensuring a secure harness fit. Remove sand from velcro closures and rinse them with water to prevent salt buildup, keeping the buckles functioning smoothly. A soft brush can help remove any remaining sand and salt.

5. Avoid Harsh Chemicals

Never use harsh chemicals to clean your harness, as they can weaken the materials. Stick to fresh water instead.

6. Store in a Cool, Dry Place

When not in use, store your harness in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight, moisture and extreme temperatures. A dedicated gear bag can provide extra protection.

7. Care for Adjustable Parts

Ensure all adjustable straps remain in excellent condition. Keep them clean and check their functionally to ensure a secure and comfortable fit during every session.

8. Protect Against Abrasion

Avoid leaving your harness on abrasive surfaces, as rough handling can damage its outer layers. A protective cover or dedicated spot in your gear bag can help preserve its quality.

9. Handle with Care

When transporting your harness, make sure you treat it with care. Avoid dragging your harness across the ground/sand or stuffing it into tight spaces to prevent unnecessary stress on the materials.

10. Do not compress your harness.

Over time, compression can alter the shape of your shell and loadplate structure. Read all about the technology of your Prolimit harness on our Harness Technology page.

By following these simple steps, you can keep your harness in excellent condition, ensuring comfort and reliability every time you hit the water.
