As watersports enthusiasts, we all know the thrill of being on the water. Simple and fleeting moments are what keep us coming back for more. Being connected to our oceans, rivers and lakes by the passion for sport is a special thing, and no matter the vessel — be it kiteboarding, winging, foiling, windsurfing, SUPing, surfing or simply swimming around — we owe our beloved sports to nature. And with this passion, comes responsibility, to protect the very waters we love.

At Prolimit, our mission to create awareness about the world and the elements in which we play continues to grow. Along coasts and across seas, the Prolimit mission evolves in a world of constant innovation. Today, we’re committed to pushing our industry towards a more sustainable future.

Enter Prolimit’s NaturePrene2: our revolutionary wetsuit material born from this commitment.

NaturePrene2

NaturePrene2 is Prolimit’s biobased alternative to traditional neoprene. Made from sustainably harvested rubber trees, this 100% natural material is FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified, ensuring that its sources promote cleaner air and water while maintaining responsible forestry practices. Each wetsuit using NaturePrene2 is meticulously engineered to provide the same stretch, warmth, insulation and durability as our previous lineup of wetsuits. By utilizing plant-based rubber, Prolimit has crafted a wetsuit that retains the performance benefits of traditional neoprene while significantly reducing its environmental impact.

While constantly striving to improve, this innovation marks a pivotal moment in our journey at Prolimit, where our dedication to sustainability and challenging the norm collide.

Now, you might be wondering: what’s the difference?

Other than being the best choice forward, not only for the environment, but the evolution and existence of our beloved watersports in the future — there are a tonne of environmental benefits of NaturePrene2 when you compare it side-by-side to the regular limestone neoprene. So, here’s the scope:

When comparing wetsuit materials, NaturePrene2 stands out for its eco-friendliness. Traditional neoprene, derived from petrochemicals, carries a significant carbon footprint. While limestone neoprene offers a reduction in environmental impact compared to oil-based neoprene, it’s still reliant on mined materials, which involve energy-intensive extraction processes.

Limestone neoprene has been an improvement over traditional oil-based neoprene, as it is less harmful to the environment and offers good durability and insulation. An even better option is Yulex, which, like NaturePrene2, is made from rubber trees. However, while Yulex's bio-based content is 63%, NaturePrene2 has a higher bio-based content of 74%, thanks to the inclusion of oyster shell.

NaturePrene2 takes sustainability further by eliminating the need for mined materials altogether. Instead of relying on non-renewable resources like limestone, NaturePrene2 is derived from natural, renewable materials that regenerate over time. It’s a leap towards sustainability without compromising on performance.

Being one with nature is what we’re all about. Our mission to create awareness and encourage our community — you and fellow watersports lovers — is at the heart of our Prolimit ethos. While our impact on the industry is significant, we minimize impact on the Earth. We believe in creating a legacy of responsible action, in our beloved ocean and beyond. Join us in our steps to a better world, as it is our responsibility to effect change. From now on, each Prolimit wetsuit symbolizes this promise and together, we can blaze a trail forward. A better today, for tomorrow.
